  • Marwell Zoo Adventure: Aurora Boveridge College Students on a Conservation Mission

    Published 26/03/24
Aurora Boveridge College students recently took an exciting step towards making the world better for all living beings. Last term, a group of our residential students attended a Conservation Conference at Marwell Zoo in Winchester.

The half-day conference combined fun zoo-based activities alongside more formal lectures to give students an insight into Marwell Zoo's conservation efforts, both inside and outside the zoo.

At Wild Explorers, an outdoor area in the zoo, students explored 'Marwell's Role.' They learnt about conservation field skills and real-life examples using animals they could see.

“Students learnt about conservation field skills.”

In the zoo's Lecture Theatre, students learnt why genetics are important for breeding programmes and overall conservation efforts.

To make sure they understood everything, students took part in the 'Snow Leopard Case Study.' This session looked at the issues faced by the Global Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Protection Programme (GSLEPP) in protecting these vulnerable species.

“A huge well done to our students for stepping out of their comfort zones.”

A huge well done to our students for stepping out of their comfort zones, engaging in lectures, and taking part in group activities - including some hands-on experiences! And of course, they wrapped up the day with a fun walk around the zoo to see these incredible creatures up close.

The Conservation Conference at Marwell Zoo was a brilliant day out for our Aurora Boveridge College students. With new knowledge and skills, they're now advocates for wildlife conservation
