Aurora Meldreth Manor pupils enjoy festive spirit

Pupils from Aurora Meldreth Manor enjoyed a seasonal twist to their weekly timetable last week in support of the village’s annual Christmas Tree Festival.
The pupils, from Aurora Meldreth Manor School, created their own decorations and adorned a tree as part of the festival taking place at Holy Trinity Church.
Assistant Headteacher Sharada Sabu said the pupils’ decorations were themed around ‘celebrations and festivals’ which was the current term’s topic of learning in lessons.
She said: “Pupils across the school have been studying celebrations from around the world, including the Day of the Dead in Mexico and Holi in India, and each class has been making decorations to go on our tree that have been based around the theme.”
The pupils headed to the church to put the finishing touches to their tree and returned on Monday, December 1, to see all the festival trees and select their favourite ones.
Ms Sabu said that as well as being an enjoyable activity for the pupils it provided valuable learning opportunities too. She said: “It’s great for the pupils to see how, what they do in the classroom, has real world applications. The festival also provided valuable opportunities to socialise and experience different settings.”
Revd Andrew Birks, Vicar of Benefice of Melbourn and Meldreth, said: “We’re truly blessed to see the creativity and enthusiasm the pupils from Aurora Meldreth Manor School bring to our Christmas Tree Festival each year."
"Their contributions not only brighten our church but also embody the spirit of community and celebration that this event is all about.”Revd Andrew Birks
