Assessors rate Aurora Orchard Manor ‘excellent’
Inspectors from Cambridgeshire County Council have rated Aurora Orchard Manor ‘excellent’ following a monitoring visit last year.
Aurora Orchard Manor is currently home to 23 young adults, aged 18-30, who have multiple complex needs. It was renamed in 2016 following its purchase by The Aurora Group from the charity Scope.
Its registered manager, Cathy Rundell, who has worked at the care home for 35 years, said she was pleased the inspectors had recognised the high level of care being provided by her staff.
“We know we’re doing the right thing,” she said, “but we were keen to have an independent assessment to tell us how we’re doing so we can chart our progress and measure our success more accurately.”
The inspectors assessed the quality, safety and contractual compliance of adult social care at Orchard Manor.
“Our care plans, our recording of information and the approach we take to person-centred care came out very strongly,” said Cathy. “They also looked at our training and staff recruitment, both of which were found to be very robust.”
Following the assessment, Aurora Orchard Manor was found to be either ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ across all the inspected areas with an overall rating of ‘excellent’.

Cathy said: “We’re fortunate to have a very highly trained and adaptable team, and they have to be, to meet the level of need of the people who use our services. We’re nurses, we’re doctors, we’re friends, we’re physiotherapists and we’re educators, in that we work on development skills.
“Overall, we have a great team and an amazing group of people living at Orchard Manor and I very much consider it a privilege to have been a part of the care home all these years.”
