A fantastic year so far at Aurora Severnside School

At Aurora Severnside School, we value providing engaging learning experiences and opportunities for our pupils to help them develop essential life skills. Recently our staff and students have taken part in exciting activities, celebrated achievements and enjoyed being a part of the local community. Here are some of the highlights from the year so far:
A warm welcome for all
We started the school year by welcoming both returning and new learners, who have settled well into their year groups. We also introduced some fantastic new staff members to the team, helping to support our learners in their education.
Skillzone adventures
Every Wednesday, our Year 10 class have been visiting Skillzone, an interactive safety education centre providing hands-on learning experiences. Pupils have been learning how to navigate realistic scenarios, from home safety to travelling independently, helping them to make safe choices in the future.
Future chefs in the making
The Future Chef Competition saw our pupils showcase their culinary skills. Congratulations to all who took part and a special shout out to Thomas, our well-deserved winner!
A day by the water
A group of learners had the fantastic opportunity to visit All Aboard Water Sports in Bristol. Through funding from Bristol Council, they took part in a Cleaning Up Bristol Harbour Project. This entailed our learners going out on the water and carrying out an aquatic based litter pick. Our pupils had a wonderful time learning about the importance of keeping our waterways clean.
Learning skills on two wheels
Gloucestershire Bikeability visited our school and gave our learners Level 2 cycle training. The training helped them gain confidence and awareness on the road, giving them the skills they need to cycle safely.
Supporting wellbeing
Mental health and wellbeing are a key focus at Aurora Severnside School. We took part in Young Minds Day, where staff wore yellow to show support and pupils took part in activities promoting positive mental health, including meditation, slime-making and a scavenger hunt.
Exciting science experiments
In science lessons, our learners explored the fascinating properties of magnesium by burning small strips of the metal. They discovered how it produces an extremely bright white flame, similar to what's used in emergency flares.
Raising funds for a great cause
Our Macmillan Coffee Morning was a huge success! We were delighted by the turnout and generous contributions from our school community, raising over £100. A big thank you to everyone who came along and took part.
Teamwork on the pitch
It’s been an exciting season for our school football teams! We hosted our first ever home game and came away with an 8-5 victory for our KS3 team. The KS4 team also put in an incredible effort during their away match, missing out by just one goal with a close 4-5 score. A huge well done to all the players and a special mention to Jack who was voted player of the game!
Connecting with nature
Nature has been at the heart of learning with our Eco School programme. Guided by teacher, Tom, our learners have loved getting involved in building, planting and exploring the environment right outside our school grounds.
Looking ahead
As we continue the academic year, we're excited about more learning experiences, activities and opportunities for our pupils. There's always something to look forward to at Aurora Severnside School!
