Saucepans, spoons and a World Record!
On 1 July, students at Aurora Eccles School in Quidenham took part in a history-making cookery class, joining celebrity chef Jamie Oliver in breaking the Guinness World Records title for the largest cookery lesson (multiple venues) ever!
Led by Jane Cole, Food Technology teacher, the class signed up to be part of Jamie Oliver’s record attempt, learning how to make fresh pasta and a no-cook tomato sauce – a dish that’s “super simple, super tasty!”
More than 10,500 participants took part in Jamie’s Zoom cook-along, with groups cooking everywhere from classrooms to kitchen counters and even garden patios. At Eccles, our students rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in, following Jamie and his head chef step-by-step through the lesson.
Jane said, “The students did brilliantly and really enjoyed being part of the world record attempt.”
Matthew, a student who took part, said, "It was an exciting experience." Dani, another student, added, "It was a bit fast, but I learnt a new technique. I will remember it in my life.”
The cookery lesson was part of Jamie’s 10 Cooking Skills For Life programme - an initiative under his Ministry of Food campaign - which promotes the belief that every young person should leave school with the basic knowledge and ability to cook for themselves.
Huge congratulations to our record-breaking young chefs!
