Aurora Summerfields School in Wilmslow, Cheshire, has received an Ofsted ‘Good’ grading with two out of the four areas reviewed as ‘Outstanding.’

Head of School Kirsty Jockel said: “We're thrilled with the outcome of our first full inspection, especially as we’ve been open for less than a year. I’ve had great support from staff, students and parents who have all contributed to the success of the school.”

Tracy Whitehurst, Principal, said: “I'm exceptionally proud of the inspection result.

This totally reflects the nurturing ethos of the school and the wonderful support provided by all staff across the site and beyond.

It’s lovely to see the school recognised for the outstanding impact we've had in such a short space of time, and it’s an exciting future ahead as the school develops and grows.

I can’t wait to welcome even more young people into the Aurora Summerfields family.”

Inspectors said: “Pupils are well looked after in the school's safe and nurturing environment. Staff prioritise supporting pupils’ emotional well-being. Many pupils have experienced a disrupted education prior to joining this school. Pupils settle well into school life. This is in part because staff spend a significant amount of time getting to know each pupil and to understand their special educational needs and/or disabilities and interests.”

“The school is resolute that pupils will achieve the best possible outcomes. This is a challenge as pupils have many gaps in their knowledge and understanding. However, this does not deter the school. Staff support pupils to catch up with their missed learning across the curriculum. Pupils are prepared well for their next steps into education, employment or training.”

They also said: “Parents are overwhelmingly positive about the school’s provision for their children. They appreciate the frequent communication from the school about how their children are getting on.”

The report graded:

  • The quality of education: Good
  • Behaviour and attitudes: Outstanding
  • Personal development: Outstanding
  • Leadership and management: Good

Staff at the school are rightly very proud of this result, as Ofsted’s Director of Education, Chris Russell, has said the new inspection framework is more “challenging.”

Aurora Summerfields supports young people aged 5 to 19 who have complex communication and social needs typically associated with Autism Spectrum Conditions.
