Family Day brings school community together

Families from Aurora Eccles and White House Schools recently came together for a Family Day, giving parents, carers and children the opportunity to enjoy some of the activities and facilities available on the schools' shared Norfolk site.
Eight families attended the event, which featured archery, climbing and forest school activities. The day was designed to give families the chance to spend time together while experiencing first-hand some of the opportunities available to students at school.
The event was warmly received by families, with one parent describing it as "a fantastic day" and thanking staff for organising it.
"It was a pleasure to meet some more of the wonderful staff at the school today who looked after us and made it such an enjoyable day," said another parent.
One parent shared: "We all had such a lovely day. Every staff member that we met on the day was so enthusiastic and dedicated. We could really see that they had the children's best interests at heart."
For some parents, the day also provided reassurance and a greater understanding of activities their children take part in during the school day.
One parent particularly valued the opportunity to experience the climbing wall firsthand, saying: "It was reassuring for us as parents to come along and see the climbing wall. It would be something that, when it came to our child's time to use the wall during school time, we would be slightly worried about, but we can now see how safe it is, how amazing the instructors are and that our child would only need to go at their own pace."
"Saturday gave me a chance to do something that I have never had the courage to do before. The instructors went above and beyond."
Families also appreciated the opportunity to experience school life alongside their children. One parent commented: "It was lovely to do something like this as a family and for us to experience some of what the school has to offer."
The day ended with families expressing their gratitude to staff and reflecting on the positive experience they had shared together.
As one parent summed up: "We left the day feeling so lucky that we'd had a chance to participate."
Aurora White House and Aurora Eccles Schools in Norwich offer a specialist academic and therapeutic provision in a caring, supportive environment for children aged 5 to 16 who have experienced difficulties in mainstream settings.
