Functional Skills - Maths

Foxes student practicing budgeting

The curriculum at Aurora Foxes has been designed to support students to gain independence. They learn how to budget for items such as personal shopping. They also learn time management skills and develop strategies to complete tasks such as fridge and freezer temperatures. The Functional Skills team work closely with staff across all departments to deliver a holistic approach to maths. This builds on independence and develops the skills required to access work.

At Aurora Foxes students can learn at entry level, level 1 and level 2. At all levels students explore the following areas:

  • Using numbers and the number system – whole numbers, fractions, decimals and percentages.
  • Using common measures, shape and space
  • Handling information and data
  • Solving mathematical problems and decision making
